Dragon Boat Festival Every year on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month is the Dragon Boat Festival, also called the "Dragon Boat Festival." This holiday has a history of over two thousand years. The origin of the festival is related to the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. Legend says that after Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river, people rowed boats to search for him and threw rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from eating his body. Today, the festival has two important traditions: dragon boat racing and eating zongzi. Zongzi are made of bamboo leaves wrapped around glutinous rice and fillings, both sweet and savory. Dragon boat races are lively and exciting, with thunderous drumbeats!
